History and Analysis

These two four-story brownstone tenements were erected together, and built to house eight families each at a cost of $8,000. Each building measured 25’x75′ on a 25’x100′ lot and were 50′ high. The stone and brick foundation was built on a concrete base on solid earth. The brick walls were to be coped with bluestone, and topped with galvanized iron cornices and a flat tin roof. Historically, two families have been housed on each floor.[1]

Both buildings retain a high level of architectural integrity with many original characteristics intact, including the brownstone cladding, the stoops, the metal cornice, and some metal windows.
