History and Analysis
1172-80 Putnam Avenue is a row of five three-and-a-half-story tenements built in 1892, designed by H. W. Billard. The original owner and builder, John Menahan who resided at 25 Bleecker Street also developed 1157-63 Putnam Avenue in the same year. All structures have been highly altered; none of them retains its original brick facade and is completely covered in vinyl siding. Only 1178 Putnam Avenue seems to retain the original cornice.
