1050 and 1060 Hancock Street are two four-story apartment buildings located between Bushwick Avenue and Evergreen Avenue built in 1916 for $35,000 each. Both structures are brick with a felt and slag roof and were designed by R. Thomas Short who had just left the prominent firm Harde & Short. The apartments were commissioned by Chauncey Cozine of 662 Putnam Avenue, the son of John Cozine of the firm of Cozine & Gascoine who had been responsible for the construction of around 1,000 structures in the area in the late 1880s. 1050 and 1060 are built on the property where Cozine and Gascoine’s townhouses had stood.
